On this date the city of Hasselt organised Kerstvonk for the second time. This year Marcel Vanthilt read a story by Stijn Meuris called 'De dag dat Neil Young in Hasselt speelde', with Joost Zweegers joining in to play a couple of Neil Young songs in between ('Man needs a maid', 'Sugar mountain' and 'Tell my why'!). Patrick De Witte and Frederik Van Den Eede held a humourous 'workshop' about humour and last but not least: a band consisting of Patrick Riguelle, Mauro, Stef Kamil Carlens and Tom Pintens played a set which consisted mostly of covers.

Fantastic versions of Daniel Lanois' 'The Messenger' (sung by SKC), The Band's 'The Weight' and Neil Youngs 'Will to love' passed. SKC and Tom Pintens did two songs together ('Raining pleasure' by The Triffids and 'Hey whatchadoin' off the latest Zita Swoon record) without the rest of the band.

Mauro played 'Shadow of your smile' solo and you could have easily mistaken Patrick Riguelle for Tom Waits when sang 'Red Shoes'... Very beautiful, and I wouldn't have minded it to last a bit longer.

The full setlist reads as follows :
Help me make it through the night (Glen Campbell)
Good year for the roses (Elvis Costello)
The Shadow of your smile
The Messenger (Daniel Lanois)
Jesus on the mainline (traditional)
Red Shoes (Tom Waits)
Hey Whatchadoing
Raining pleasure (The Triffids)
Will to love (Neil Young)
Once I was fine
The Weight (The Band)
In every dream home a heartache (Roxy Music)
