On this date the city of Hasselt organised Kerstvonk for the second time. This year Marcel Vanthilt read a story by Stijn Meuris called 'De dag dat Neil Young in Hasselt speelde', with Joost Zweegers joining in to play a couple of Neil Young songs in between ('Man needs a maid', 'Sugar mountain' and 'Tell my why'!). Patrick De Witte and Frederik Van Den Eede held a humourous 'workshop' about humour and last but not least: a band consisting of Patrick Riguelle, Mauro, Stef Kamil Carlens and Tom Pintens played a set which consisted mostly of covers.

Fantastic versions of Daniel Lanois' 'The Messenger' (sung by SKC), The Band's 'The Weight' and Neil Youngs 'Will to love' passed. SKC and Tom Pintens did two songs together ('Raining pleasure' by The Triffids and 'Hey whatchadoin' off the latest Zita Swoon record) without the rest of the band.

Mauro played 'Shadow of your smile' solo and you could have easily mistaken Patrick Riguelle for Tom Waits when sang 'Red Shoes'... Very beautiful, and I wouldn't have minded it to last a bit longer.

The full setlist reads as follows :
Help me make it through the night (Glen Campbell)
Good year for the roses (Elvis Costello)
The Shadow of your smile
The Messenger (Daniel Lanois)
Jesus on the mainline (traditional)
Red Shoes (Tom Waits)
Hey Whatchadoing
Raining pleasure (The Triffids)
Will to love (Neil Young)
Once I was fine
The Weight (The Band)
In every dream home a heartache (Roxy Music)

Between 16 July and late September 2004, Hasselt was staging the Cinema Rumba film festival. The final event of Cinema Rumba on 25th September took place in Kinepolis Hasselt. They showed three legendary music films (Scorsese's 'The Last Waltz', Jim Jarmusch' 'Year of the Horse' and Talking Heads' 'Stop making sense'), two movies for and about musical patients (according to Cinema Rumba) ('High Fidelity' and 'This is spinal tap') and one horror cult classic of 1974, namely 'The Wicker Man'. Each movie was preceded by a live-set by Patrick Riguelle, Mauro and friends performing music taken from those movies.

Vadermoord was a series of short 'interpretations' at t Stuk in Leuven. The concept: a musician performs some songs of some musical icon that relates to him/herself... Mauro chose 'to do' Sun Ra.

Vadermoord III (2004): 9/3 Thomas Devos (Rumplestitchkin) does Madou, Mauro Pawlowski does Sun Ra
10/3 Anton Walgrave does Leonard Cohen, Ronny Mosuse does The Beatles
16/3 Arne Van Peetegem (Styrofoam) + Dieter Sermeus (Orange Black) + Nico Jacobs (Star Club West) do Elliott Smith
17/3 Bherman does Patti Smith, Stijn Meuris + Dead Souls do Joy Division

On the 't Stuk-site: " Mauro: muzikaal genie zonder weerga. Mauro: bekend van o.a.
